The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released graphic photos and a statement claiming a significant victory in an attack on a Nigerian Army base in Borno State.

Sahara Reporters had reported that the attack, which occurred on Saturday, targeted a Forward Operating Base in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, resulting in heavy casualties among Nigerian soldiers.

ISWAP's statement boasts of numerous soldier deaths, the destruction of two armored tanks, and the burning of 10 armored vehicles.

While the Nigerian military has yet to release an official statement on the extent of the damage, security sources have confirmed significant losses, including multiple fatalities and numerous soldiers unaccounted for.

This attack comes amidst claims by President Bola Tinubu that his administration is "winning the war on terror" at an unprecedented rate.

However, ISWAP's growing strength and recent successes challenge this narrative.

The group, which has seen a surge in membership following the demise of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, continues to pose a significant threat to security in the region.

The insurgency in northeastern Nigeria has resulted in over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions of people.

Despite repeated claims of victory by the Nigerian Army, the ongoing violence underscores the persistent challenges in combating the Islamist insurgency.
