NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN) IMO STATE CHAPTER COMMENDS IMO STATE POLICE COMMAND FOR SWIFT RESPONSE TO FATAL IMSU CRASH

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Imo State Chapter has received with appreciation the official report from the Imo State Police Command regarding the fatal road traffic accident that occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, 26th July, 2026, at the front gate of Imo State University, IMSU.




According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, *DSP Okoye Henry, anipr*, the Command has arrested *Dike Chibuike Michael, 30*, of Umuolowu, Ejemekuru, Oguta LGA, in connection with the incident which claimed the life of *Chibuike Friday, 19*, of Izzi LGA, Ebonyi State, and left *Bright Ukwuoma* injured.


The Council commends the *Divisional Police Officer, Orji Division*, and his team for their prompt response, professional handling of the situation, arrest of the suspect, and rescue of the suspect from an angry mob. This swift action is commendable and reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of lives and maintenance of law and order.


We also commend the *Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, psc(+), mnips*, for condemning the act of reckless driving and for directing the State Traffic Department to conduct a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the crash. We note with satisfaction the assurance that the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon conclusion of investigations.


NYCN Imo State Chapter aligns with the Command’s warning to motorists against excessive speeding, reckless driving, and other traffic violations. As the umbrella body for youth development in the state, we reiterate our call: *SAY NO TO ILLEGAL STREET RACING.*


We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. May his soul rest in peace. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured victim.


The Council reassures the *Nigerian Police Force, Imo State Command* of our continued partnership and support in the collective effort to ensure the safety of all residents and to rid our roads and campuses of lawlessness.
